Clashes as police seize bombs from loyalist protesters BELFAST, Friday (AFP) Loyalist protesters attacked police of the Royal Ulster Constabulary, slightly injuring one officer, after the officers moved in to seize home-made bombs in a predominantly Protestant neighbourhood, police said. The clashes, in the Shankhill Road area of Belfast, left one police officer injured in the hand. Loyalists attacked police in Belfast today after the RUC seized a number of suspect blast bombs, the police said, adding that there were no arrests. A spokesman said a number of suspect devices were found in a bag behind a derelict house. The violence came on the heels of several days of bitter clashes between loyalist demonstrators in north Belfast and Catholics who have been trying to take their young children to school across a Protestant area. On Wednesday the loyalist protesters threw a home-made blast bomb in the direction of the children. None of the infants were hurt, but four policemen were injured.
