US declares war The United States declared itself Wednesday at war with the terrorists who launched
suicide flights at key centres of US power, killing thousands of Americans and leaving the
once-impregnable superpower suddenly feeling vulnerable. The battle cry was issued by
Secretary of State Colin Powell. New Cabinet tomorrow The new Cabinet will be sworn in on September 14. President Bush in a televised speech to the nation from the Oval Office the evening of
September 11 denounced what he called the "evil, despicable acts of terror"
earlier in the day that took thousands of lives at the World Trade Center in New York and
the Pentagon in the nation's capital. Terrorism must be fought resolutely wherever it appears. Because no just cause can be
advanced by terror, says Kofi Annan Secretary General of the United Nations in a message
