Voice of the Sinhala and Tamil Media Lankadeepa UNITE AT LEAST NOW The entire world has been shocked and horrified by the terrorist attack on the world's super power, America. The immensity of the attack was so great that definite figures of the dead and injured were not available even till late yesterday. The Pentagon and New York World Trade Centre which symbolize America's military might and financial power respectively were crashed on to by terrorists after hijacking three US domestic flights. This is an unprecedented attack in the whole world. Terrorism has developed into world's worst problem of the 21st century. This is the dreadful global tendency. At least now the world community should unite to take well-planned and meticulously implemented and effective anti-terrorist action throughout the entire world. It is the bounden duty of all world leaders to give this task top priority. Divaina ADDRESSING MR. BUSH It is obvious that man despite being civilized still has strong brutal and inhuman nature in him as demonstrated by the horrendous terrorist attacks. Terrorism is a direct result of social, economic and political malpractices. However, Tiger terrorism is a unique example of trying to exert power even without intense ethnic oppression. For whatever reason terrorism cannot be justified. Very often it is an organisation which considers its leader with blinded and unquestioned servility. Its followers treat their puppet leaders with demi-godly reverence. They are out to destroy the human civilization by their rapacious and insatiable bloodthirsty acts of human carnage and destruction. Most of the powerful countries themselves against terrorism harbour terrorists who maintain centres to collect funds. America did not stop treating terrorists as pets even after the grave shock of Oklahoma bombing in 1995. This is due to world leaders having their own personal views on terrorism as it suits their advantage. President George W. Bush said in his TV address that he will not waste time talking to terrorists who attacked US. We are also in the same boat as the US, although the attack on Katunayake Airport is of much less immensity. Lakbima DEFEAT TERRORISM Terrorism is nothing but a brutal and inhuman force that kills series of innocent human beings. We unreservedly condemn the cowardly, beastly and horrendous terrorist attack on the US and curse its perpetrators and curse the entire worldwide terrorism. The deadly body blow the America's super power image and its military establishment received by this attack was unimaginable. One cannot forget that US itself has, though indirectly, contributed to the defiantly strong nature of terrorism. It is no secret that the US has used terrorism as a cat's paw to maneuver governments of other countries according to its foreign policies. At least now, super powers should abandon their devious policies of nurturing, helping and using terrorism for their own ends and act with resolve and determination to vanquish this world-spread menace. Dinamina A LESSON FROM THE AMERICAN ATTACK The shocking and dreadful scenes which appeared on the TV screen evoked a first reaction in US as if we were viewing an alien attack on the US. The entire world was shocked beyond imagination at the fierce terrorist attack on the very hub and nerve centre of military might, the Pentagon and its economic hub, the World Trade Centre. We express our sincere sympathy to the innumerous victims. As the world's super power, it is incomparable to any other country in military strength, economic stability and tremendous wealth. But, this attack has taught the bitter lesson that none of those can protect US from the inhuman blood curdling terrorism. We too have to learn from this that terrorism can only be vanquished by removing the causes which give birth to and nurture terrorism and not by force alone. The Democratic Opposition too set an example to our own Opposition by immediately rallying round President George W. Bush at this time of national disaster. US media too behaved with responsibility and studied discipline without fanning flames of human revenge. We should also learn from this attack that terrorism is a cause and effect phenomenon and the cause should be eliminated by peaceful means. Thinakaran THE ATTACK THAT SHOOK THE WORLD A suicide attack on the US on Tuesday has shocked the world. The attackers had used hijacked passenger planes for this attack. It is not a secret that there are people in the world who oppose the American super power. But, the manner in which the attack was made, killing several thousands of people, should be roundly condemned. Militants who believe in solving all problems through terrorism might welcome the attack. But, terrorism in any form or from whichever source, is detestable. Terrorists are enemies of humanity itself. We express our vehement condemnation and condole with the people of the US. Thinakkural A CARNAGE THAT HAS TO BE CONDEMNED The suicide attack on the US that has been described as reminding World War II, has shaken the whole world. This incident is sure to bring in its wake serious changes in international relations and can prove to be a challenge to world peace. America, which was acting as an international protector and a policeman for several decades has been reduced to this pitiful condition. The CIA that boasted to be an international watch dog, also cannot escape blame following this attack. The assault on Pentagon, Defence establishment is an attack on the very security of the US. The political dominance of America and its economy have been shaken to the core in a moment. Though certain countries subjected to oppressive American dominance, appear to feel jubilant, militant countries such as the Palestine and terrorist rulers such as the Taliban and the Hamas Movement condemning and mourning the attack are significant developments. Countries which have hastened to condemn this attack as inhuman, should at least now, think of bringing conflicts in their own lands to an end. If forceful countries continue to dominate small countries, it will lead to a Third World War and an utter destruction. It is, therefore, now time to take a completely new stock of the world situation and consider a warless and peaceful atmosphere for the world community. Virakesari HEIGHT OF TERRORISM Americans are undergoing the ill effects of terrorism due to Tuesday's terrorist attacks. World leaders have condemned the attack in one voice. Britain, France and Canada, friendly countries of America, are shocked and have strengthened their own security. Due to these attacks thousands of people have died and the security of America is in danger. Terrorist attacks have been carried out throughout the world and America has condemned it. But neither America nor its people would have expected such an attack being directed towards their country. They always believed that America and its people would be safe at any cost and the CIA was there to protect them. Whoever the architects of this attack and whatever their motives, they should be condemned forthwith in the interest of humanity. |
