SU queries about travel warning to US

Leader of the Sihala Urumaya, Thilak Karunaratne in a press release has condemned the terrorist attack on America and requests world leaders including the USA to work to eliminate terrorism in the world.

The release stated: We condemn in no uncertain terms this most heinous and horrendous crime against the people of the United States of America. Our sympathies and condolences go to the people who have lost their loved ones. We also offer our profound sorrows to President Bush and the US Government.

It said that an immediate conference of all security agencies in the SAARC region must be convened to take preventive action within the SAARC region as terrorism has posed a threat in the region too.

This unprecedented attack is a grim reminder to the civilized world of the destruction, a few terrorists could cause irrespective of the affected country's determination and resolve to prevent such attacks, it said.

The release also stated: "Will Lloyds and other insurance agencies slap a war risk surcharge on ships entering the New York Harbour which is situated very close to where the twin Towers of the World Trade Centre stood? Will the planes entering US airports and federal and commercial buildings which are at risk of future terrorist attacks be slapped with high insurance premia? Will countries in Europe, Asia and elsewhere issue a travel warning to the USA? These are questions the world community should answer or are these burdens imposed only on a poor and hapless country like Sri Lanka?"
