Training is essential for the development of housing and construction sector - Minister Farial Ashraff The Minister of Development, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the East, Rural Housing Development and Women's Affairs, Mrs. Farial Ashraff speaking at the Certificate Award Ceremony for Engineering Staff of the School Planning and Building Cell of Ministry of Health and Education, Royal Government of Bhutan held at the auditorium of the Centre for Housing Planning & Building (CHPB) recently said: "Training for professionals involved in the construction industry is very important. The engineering personnel, graduating from the Universities, Polytechnics or Technical Colleges would have gained adequate engineering knowledge and to some extent engineering and managerial skills. After starting actual work however, the need for additional skills and the need to discuss and clarify problems faced by them arises. Therefore it is very important that in-service training of this nature is available periodically for the professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge and to be up-to-date with rapid development and the changing technology." The CHPB has organised this special training course for the Engineers of Royal Government of Bhutan and under this programme the local construction work and the management skill has been trained for more than 1 month. At this function Mrs. Farial Ashraff further said, "As we all know training is a continuous thing and does not end with the end a formal training course of this nature. When you are faced with a problem you will recollect what was taught in the course or you will be referring back to your course materials and try to find solutions. Also if required you would be able to contact other colleagues or even the resource persons. If you have not followed a course you will not know where to refer to in such situations. That is the difference when you have had in-service training." "Also it is equally important how you put into practice the knowledge and skills you have gained during the training. Some of the things covered you may be able to apply directly in what you are doing. But some of the things may be for enhancement of knowledge, which will indirectly contribute to your work and be useful in accurate decision making, in supervising the work of the contractors, etc." Mrs. Farial Ashraff has distributed the certificates to participants at this awards ceremony. Mr. Ariyaratne Hewage, Secretary to the Ministry of Development, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the East, Rural Housing Development and Women's Affairs and Mrs. G. Karunaratne, Director, CHPB were also present on this occasion. |
