Kent clinch English Sunday League title LONDON, Sept 16 (AFP) - Kent grabbed the English Sunday League title as Leicestershire's incredible late season bad patch continued with defeat at Nottinghamshire. Leicester were way out in front with four matches left and a 10-point cushion from the chasing pack. Earlier this summer they had had nine consecutive one-day victories and the signs were that the crown would go to them. But a run of three successive defeats meant the Foxes went into their last match needing to beat Notts, while Kent hovered menacingly. Kent skipper Matthew Fleming had declared before his side's thrilling nine-run win against Warwickshire at Edgbaston: "It's Leicestershire's title to lose" - and so it proved. John Morris effectively stole a five-wicket victory for Notts in his farewell appearance at Trent Bridge, his 48-ball 57 helping his side home with 39 balls to spare. Leicestershire's earlier score of 185 for nine soon looked vulnerable as Morris played some splendid shots, while Darren Bicknell made a measured 35 and Australia's Greg Blewett struck 48. |
