Fall in milk production

Large numbers of cattle from the drought stricken areas such as Hambantota, Moneragala, Suriyawewa and Wellawaya etc., are being slaughtered on the way and put in large vehicles with cooling chambers and transferred late at night or early hours of morning and distributed to towns like Kandy and suburbs.

Most of these animals are stolen from the poor villagers in these areas and slaughtered illicitly. The Police should be vigilant and apprehend such wrong doers and see that they are punished. If not, by eating such flesh that breeds disease there may soon be an epidemic.

Further, this may result in drastic reduction in milk production as these are the areas where most of the milk is produced and supplied to the Milk Board's collection centres.

As this appears now to be a big widespread racket, the Government should take serious notice and take steps immediately to halt it.

Compact Fluorescent Lamps

Most of the electricity used in our country is used for lighting purposes. Except for a minor percentage of lights which are fluorescent tubes or compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), most other lights are of incandescent lamp type. Incandescent lamps are the normal filament type bulbs and these use only one fourth of electricity for light while three fourths are wasted as heat. Comparatively CFLs use only one fourth of electricity to produce the same amount of light of a filament type bulb, because CFLs do not waste electricity as heat.

To overcome the present electricity crisis one of the easiest ways to reduce electricity usage is to use CFLs for all lighting purposes. This will save an enormous amount of foreign exchange used to buy fuel for electricity generation.

But still the price of CFLs is not within the reach of many electricity consumers. To encourage the use of CFLs the price has to come down. If the Government removes the GST and taxes and if possible even subsidise the price of CFLs many people will be tempted to buy CFLs thereby saving millions for the country.

Shedding crocodile tears

The LTTE front organisations in the USA, Canada and other countries are very busy trying to win the hearts of the American people by expressing their sympathy and condolence to families of the victims of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

This hypocrisy and deceit of the LTTE will not pay dividends as the whole world except for a few misguided people, know that the LTTE is the most ruthless, barbaric and untrustworthy criminals on earth.

These terrorists who shed crocodile tears for the loss of lives in the worst terrorist attack in America are acting in this manner in order to deceive the American leaders so that the LTTE would be spared from the war declared against world terrorism of which the Tigers are not second to Osma Bin Laden's terrorist outfit. This new barbarism was started by the LTTE long before Bin Laden formed his terrorist organisation.

Flattering American leadership or calling upon Tamils to donate blood to the injured in the terrorist attack in Washington and New York will not save the barbaric LTTE from the onslaught against global terrorism. Make no mistake the genocidal LTTE will be dealt with in a fitting manner by the global anti-terrorist coalition.

The genocidal attacks by the LTTE on the innocent Sri Lankan civilians in the border villages inhabited by Sinhalese or Muslims in the North and East, are as barbaric as terrorist attacks in America.

Infants, children, men and women were cut in to pieces in the dead of the night by the LTTE terrorists in exercises of ethnic cleansing. Hundreds of people who were killed in Tiger terrorist attacks on the Central Bank, the CTO, Sri Mahabodhi, Dalada Maligawa etc. are utterly criminal and as genocidal as the terrorist attack on America.

However, the LTTE has not condemned this ruthless terrorist attack on America officially, although they shed crocodile tears. In their heart of heart the Tigers are thrilled about the terrorist attack on America. LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham has challenged the British government and the people last year and said, "If you ban the LTTE we will show you what real terrorism is."
