LTTE attacks 64 police post in Muttur

Eleven Policemen were killed and 18 others injured when an LTTE gang launched a massive attack on 64 Police Post in Muttur, Trincomalee yesterday afternoon, Defence sources told the Daily News.

The fourteen injured persons - four civilians, eleven Policemen and three soldiers - were evacuated to the Trincomalee hospital by boats, sources added.

According to Defence sources the LTTE had launched mortar attack and later attacked the Police post with small arms after entering it amidst mortar fires.

Reinforcements arrived and took the control of the Police post after a fierce battle with the LTTE, sources said.

A senior military official said that this Police post had came under regular LTTE attacks during day time.

According to Trincomalee ASP Operations Premalal Ranagala, informations had received that a LTTE gang had arrived the vicinity at about 12.30 pm. The Police post was informed regarding the back before hand, the sources added.
