NEW DELHI, Nov 4 (AFP) - A jeep carrying firecrackers exploded Sunday, instantly killing five occupants of the vehicle on a highway in northern India, the Press Trust of India said.

The blast tossed the jeep several feet into the air, trapping the occupants in the fire that erupted on the highway in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh state, the news agency added.

Hundreds of millions of Hindus across India use firecrackers to celebrate the festival of light in November every year.
