He was addressing a meeting in the Deraniyagala area. The UNP can never come to power, as long as the Masses are with the PA. Estate workers who were seriously affected by the Communal riots of 1983 will never support the UNP, as they are aware, that if they did so they will have to face the same consequences. The UNP should be ashamed to canvass estate votes after harming them to the maximum. Likewise all peace loving voters in Kegalla District will reject the UNP at the Polls. The Minister said that the country had to face severe economic impact due to the fault of the UNP, which is responsible for the communal violence in 1983. It was thereafter that our economy deteriorated. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is a democratic leader who has no ill-feeling towards any community or religion. During the last several years of her rule there had not been a single incident of communal violence although the UNP tried its best to cause a repetition of same. It is the PA that could resolve the problem of this country, unite the people and bring everlasting peace. Therefore, voters should not be misled by the empty promises of the UNP but continue their support to the President and the PA the Labour Minister stressed. |
