Peiris referring to comments by Anura Bandaranaike that the President reigns for the next 4 1/2 years and that electing a UNP Parliament would be a useless exercise noted that it was the same Anura Bandaranaike who was in the fray from the UNP to enter Parliament last year. "Why did he take the trouble to fight a parliamentary election if it was a fruitless exercise," Prof. Peiris asked at an election rally in support of UNP candidate Wijepala Mendis at the Averiyawatte junction in Katunayake on Wednesday.
