| News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Election related incidents - 802 by Sarath Malalasekera The number of election related incidents reported from the first day after the nominations rose to 802 by November 16, the Police Election Secretariat stated yesterday. The complaints were recorded in the Anuradhapura, Chilaw, Kegalle, Gampola, Matale, Tangalle, Ampara, Negombo, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Colombo and Anamaduwa Police areas. Of these 418 were by the UNP, 260 by the PA, 43 by the JVP, 26 by the SLMC, 8 by the EPDP and other parties including Independent groups made 47 complaints. This include 197 cases of simple hurt, 191 of abuse and assault, 190 incidents of mischief, 15 shooting incidents and three murders- two in Negombo and one in Anamaduwa. Director of the Police Election Secretariat, Senior SP T.J. Miskin told the "Daily News" yesterday that several major incidents were reported in the Chilaw, Kegalle, Anamaduwa and Gampaha Police areas. The highest number of complaints received by the PES was 98 from Chilaw. Anuradhapura-86, Ampara-73, Tangalle-54 and Kegalle-43. Earlier, the Kalmunai Police received a complaint stating that five persons including two candidates were abducted by the LTTE.
