Galle district PA candidate Mohan P. de Silva said, that, the UNP should bear responsibility for over 60,000 lives claimed in the North East war since '83.

He was addressing meetings at Telwatta, Akurala and Ratgama on Tuesday.

Once the ethnic violences erupted in '83 the common belief among the people was that the UNP is in a secret pact with the LTTE, he said.

Those UNP regimes from '83 to '94 gave money, materials, and weapons to the LTTE in order to prolong the war, and it was revealed by the then high ranking army officers before fact finding commissions," he said.

"But the UNP totally denied such a secret pact" he said.

"But today it has become true," he said. According to UNP election manifesto issues for the December 5 general election, they have pledged to form an interim administration to North East for a short period, and anybody can read it with their own eyes, he said.

"Sensible and intelligent people are most sure of the LTTE non-returning of the North-East provinces once given, because Prabhakaran's sole motive is an Eelam state and nothing else", he revealed. "You all must keep the fact well in mind" he told the crowds. Ranil and other UNP leaders, including S.B. and G.L. who crossed over to the Opposition participated at all the conferences called by the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga hoping to give a reasonable political solution to the burning ethnic problem, but ultimately they foiled those attempts keeping their secret hidden", he said.

Therefore, continuous blood-shed property destructions, loss of lives are still going on unabated, and that is why I say that the UNP should bear the full responsibility for those disasters", he stressed. Therefore, the UNP is in a bid to grab power even after giving the North East to LTTE heedless of the territorial integrity of the country", he said.

This situation must be well understood by the Maha Sangha who are the guardian Gods of the sasana and nation", he pointed out.

He questioned all UNP candidates whether it is not Sinhala blood that is running in their veins and arteries?

"Divided major countries such as Germany, Korea, Vietnam and Canada are now in a bid to reunite, but we are in a bid to give a part of our small island, the only habitat for the Sinhala nation on a platter to ruthless separatists", he stressed.

Messrs D.C. de Silva (JP) Hikkaduwa PS members Upali Siriwardane and S. Ariyawansa also addressed the meetings.
