Mini
hydro projects assisted by ADB
by Kegalla special correspondent The Asian Development Bank aids the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council to provide a mini hydro electric projects in the area. The ADB has provided aid to the tune of over one and half billion of rupees in this view. The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has embarked on the initiation and development of twenty five mini hydro projects in the Deraniyagala electorate and twenty three mini hydro projects in the Yatiyantota constituency, as both these localities have abundance of small water falls and rapids that could be harnessed for generating electricity. Kegalle district member of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Sirisena Rajapaksha told the Daily News, that the PA government in the next term of its administration will complete these projects resulting in a large scale electrification of these areas through these projects. In the event of executing these projects, many entrepreneurs can start minor industries which would not only enhance their income but also generate lot of employment for the rural youths in different aspects. Sirisena Rajapaksha told our correspondent that already work in thirty one of these projects have been completed and will go into commission soon. No government in this country since independence, dreamt of harnessing these minor waterfalls and rapids for the good of the people other than the PA government as President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga at its helm, and that rest of the proposed projects will be completed at the next term of office of the PA government, in a brief period. |
