Several accelerated development activities including a middle class housing project will begin in Polonnaruwa district soon. Construction of over 30 houses under a pilot project costing around Rs.1 million each house for government servants will begin next January. Similarly, another two housing projects for expatriate workers returning from Middle East and Middle Class people will also begin later, National Housing Development Authority District Manager Ariya Munasinghe said. Under another crash program, Rs.35 million prime development projects will be implemented by November 15 to benefit people in seven Divisional Secretary areas in the district, District Secretary spokesman said. Meanwhile, Mahaweli Authority has assisted 17,000 land beneficiaries of the second generation of the Mahaweli Scheme and Ranaviru families to grow cash crops in their home gardens, Mahaweli Authority official said. |
