Triumph
for Sri Lankan tourism
The recently concluded IT&CMA (Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings Asia) MICE Tourism trade fair was a triumph for Sri Lanka tourism. IT&CMA 2001 was held at the MINES International Exhibition and Conference Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from October 23 to 25, 2001. The event was attended by over 500 hosted buyers and trade visitors. All key MICE destinations in the Asia Pacific region showcased their product at this event. The main objective of Sri Lanka's participation at this event was to maintain presence in the market as well as to source for new MICE business. Most of the Asian visitors were interested in visiting destinations within the region. Sri Lanka was appealing to most of them as it was a 'relatively new destination'. The global situation has led to the new concept of Asians visiting Asia. Through the business contacts gained at IT&CMA 2001 Sri Lanka can expect a great number of MICE tourists from Singapore, Malaysia, India and Australia/New Zealand in addition to the Europeans. The Sri Lankan delegation was led by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau.
The bureau's main objective is to promote Sri Lanka as an ideal
destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions/Conferences,
Exhibitions/Events) Tourism. |
