We are only spokesmen of LTTE - TNA candidate

by Trincomalee correspondent

N. Srikantha (TELO) a candidate of the Tamil National Alliance contesting the Trincomalee district addressing an election meeting in Trincomalee said, "We are not leaders of the Tamils. We are spokesmen of the LTTE who are fighting for the legitimate rights of Tamil people in the North East province.

'TELO' leader, Selvam Adaikalanathan said that the verdict of Tamils in the forthcoming general elections would force the Government in power to start negotiations with the LTTE. Therefore every vote cast in favour of the Tamil National Alliance would contribute to the cause of Tamils.

He said the victory of the Tamil National Alliance would show the world that the Tamil national question could not be effectively solved without negotiating with the LTTE who are the sole representatives of the Tamil community.

Adaikalanathan further said, "The LTTE observed four months of a Unilateral Declaration of Ceasefire. However the Government did not respond. Instead the Government intensified its military activities. Now the LTTE is in a position to participate in talks, but the Government is not prepared to have talks.

The Tamil National Alliance was formed to give pressure to the Government to start talks immediately with the LTTE, with third party facilitation.

The Government should lift the ban on the LTTE in Sri Lanka."
