UNP and EPDP penetrate into Jaffna peninsula

Election propaganda has warmed up in the Jaffna peninsula with EPDP and the UNP penetrating into interior villages with their propaganda outfits and pasting posters on parapet walls with no space to spare. Street walls have been decorated with life size posters of Minister Douglas Devananda and Ranil Wickremesinghe and T. Makeswaran the UNP candidate for the Jaffna district.

At Thunalai in Point Pedro the UNP supporters had snatched a rifle and bullets from an EPDP cadre and handed them over to the Point Pedro police.

The EPDP alleged that a rifle was snatched from a sentry guarding a President of a Pradeshiya Sabha by a gang of UNP supporters. They have made a complaint to the Karaveddy police regarding this incident.

The TULF, TELO and All Ceylon Tamil Congress Alliance are doing house to canvassing in Vadamaradchy and Valigamam North. So far no incident of violence is reported against the Tamil United Alliance.

Kayts electorate a stronghold of EPDP has been penetrated by the UNP led by T. Makeswaran. Allegations of intimidation have been made both by the UNP and the EPDP.
