banners posters removed
by Kegalle special correspondent Since the nomination for the forthcoming General Elections, Kegalle Police have taken action to remove all banners, posters and cut-outs that were being displayed in Kegalle town. Even minor notices displayed on walls, trees, culverts and bridges denoting electioneering are being torn and destroyed. The police are doing this without favour to anybody or being biased by Government or opposition politics, and they are only implementing the law. The police source which spoke to our correspondent said that they are strictly implementing the instructions of higher authorities based on the terms, rules and regulations guiding the General Election. At the present moment, there are no electioneering propaganda posters, or decorations to be seen anywhere in the town other than certain handwritten slogans intermittently made by the JVP on the centre of the surface of the road. The public in this area praise the Kegalle Police for their impartial attitude in the removal of these posters and decorations in an unbiased manner. The police say that they are going to adhere strictly to the election
laws based on instructions they have received.
