President Kumaratunga will rule the country till 2006 - Ranjan Wijewardena

by Thihagoda Group Correspondent

The PA candidate for the Matara district, Ranjan Wijewardena addressing a PA election propaganda meeting at Kamburupitiya recently, said that "the UNP is trying to unleash acts of election violence and thuggery as the voters are not with them. When the Opposition was in power an election was like a war. The UNP have forgotten the gloomy past. The People's Alliance administration would never allow them to repeat what they used to do. A favourable environment would be created by the PA to conduct a free and fair election.

"The UNP which has entered into an secret pact with four Tamil political parties, is subscribing to a division of the country. The pact the UNP has signed with Tamil political parties would be a most dangerous agreement as it would lift the ban on the LTTE if the UNP could comeback to power. The ulterior motive of the UNP leader is to satisfy his greed for power even through betrayal of the motherland.

"What the majority of voters want is to elect the PA again at the forthcoming general election. No other government in Sri Lanka had done such a great deal of development work than the PA. The President will rule the country till 2006. It is therefore incumbent on the citizens to elect a Government with whom the President can work without conflict."

A. Kumanayake, former Thihagoda Pradeshiya Sabha Member, addressing the meeting said that "Those who were engaged in corruption and malpractices have left the party and joined the UNP. As the majority have already rejected the UNP they are trying to come back to power by acts of violence.

The people have reposed a high degree of confidence in the President and her party. The victory of the PA would therefore be clear," he said.
