We should approach peace from a positive perspective - Ravi Karunanayake

by L. B. A. Nawagattegama

We must approach peace from a positive perspective, an honourable solution with hope for all and prejudice to none, which is the need of the hour, Colombo District UNP candidate Ravi Karunanayake told the opening ceremony of the party election office at Homagama.

Karunanayake said, that the illegal and immoral framework within which the PA Government functions through lawlessness and undemocratic means, have eventually collapsed. It has been proved, over and over again, that there is no future in a democratic country such as ours for fraudulent and deceitful measures to overcome democracy.

Despite all the state machinery and unethical resources at their disposal, the PA Government managed to survive only for six years.

"Today we stand once again on the threshold of an election which was obtained at the cost of much trouble and cleverly planned strategy.

The people of our country have an unprecedented opportunity to elect a Government of their choice. This choice represents not just winning the forthcoming election, but voting for stability and democracy that will be the blueprint of our future.

"The shattered economy needs to be drawn together with the foundation of lasting stability and nurtured growth. We need to ask ourselves, how many more deaths are going to take place to admit that too many people have died. We must approach peace from a positive perspective - an honourable solution with hope for all and prejudice to none, is the need of the hour.

"Democratic institutions have to be depoliticised and strengthened to renew the people's faith in them. Most importantly, the rule of law which transcends all barriers must be re-established and safeguarded at all times."
