will not allow separatist elements to destroy country - Somawansa
by Jatila Karawita in Kalutara JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe speaking at a political platform for the first time on home soil in 12 years vowed that he has returned to the country to provide leadership to a JVP government which will be formed after the December 5 General Election. Amarasinghe who spoke at a JVP election rally at Kalutara last evening stressed that he and his party members are prepared to lay down their lives to protect the territorial integrity of the nation. JVP leader Amarasinghe said that the JVP will never allow the separatist elements or the corrupt forces of the UNP and the PA to destroy the country after the elections. Amarasinghe described how their late leader Rohana Wijeweera took pains to form the JVP. He described Wijeweera as a true political martyr who had advised Amarasinghe to protect his life for the future because of the people. He said that during his 12 year self imposed exile he had worked tirelessly to develop the JVP network of offices abroad and that he had constantly kept pace with Sri Lankan politics. Amarasinghe said that under a JVP government he will wipe out the LTTE, terrorism including its leader Prabhakaran while not allowing any scope for the UNP and the SLFP led PA to ruin the country any longer. He challenged former UNP MP Rajitha Senaratne to arrest him if possible. "I am not afraid to die. I left Sri Lanka in 1989 due to the ruthless crackdown launched against our party by Ranil Wickremesinghe's UNP." " I am the only remaining member from our 1989 politburo."
