Local polls not on first-past-the-post system

There is no truth in media reports that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was to meet Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake yesterday, the Prime Minister's Office said in a news release.

It added that amendments to the Local Government Elections Act would cover only the durations for nominations and the election campaign. There will be no amendment for holding the election on the first-past-the-post system.
