by L. B. Wijayasiri in Kandy

On successful completion of Prathmic stage to learning Hindi, at the Hindi Classes introduced for the first time at the Assistant High Commission of India in Kandy, 17 students from Kandy were awarded certificates by the Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, Chennai India.

Successful candidates received the certificates form the Assistant High Commissioner for India in Kandy Achal K. Malhothara at a ceremonial presentation held at the Assistant High Commission of India in Kandy.

The Hindi Classes were introduced at the Assistant High Commission of India in Kandy in September and it was the first ever batch of students which learnt Hindi from a qualified teacher at Kandy and sat the examination from Kandy, itself. The question papers were set by the Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha based in Chennai, which also evaluated the answer sheets.

Out of 17 candidates, as many as 10 secured first grade and the remaining good-second-grade. One of them has been awarded a Government of India scholarship and has since left for India to pursue further studies in Hindi at Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra.

At the presentation of certificates students learning Hindi at the Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy presented a colourful cultural show. The Assistant High Commission of India admits every year a limited number of genuinely interested students for learning Hindi free of charge. At present 30 students are learning Hindi at Parathmic and Madyam levels.

One of the students who has successfully completed the Hindi course at the Hindi Classes introduced at the Assistant Indian High Commission of India in Kandy receives his certificate from Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Kandy Achal K.
