Cricket history was created at Ambalangoda last weekend, when Aruna Sports Club - Ambalangoda scored 123 runs in 2.3 overs (75 wides, 19 byes, 1 no ball) to register an easy, 9 wicket victory over Old Serviatius C and AC Matara, after conceding the 1st innings victory to the opponents by 79 runs. Readers might think that this record established in a friendly match played by two clubs. It is not so and this was a Division II inter-club tournament match organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka and umpired by Cricket Board appointed two qualified umpires.

This is how it happened to in this all island 2 day game between Matara Old Serviatius C and AC and Aruna Sports Club, Ambalangoda, Matara side put into bat, scored 179 runs off, 53.1 overs at Ambalangoda Public grounds. In reply to this total hosts Aruna side were bundled out for 100 runs off 30.4 overs with right arm leg spinner R. Sampath claiming 7.31 at the end of the day one, Matara was one wicket down for 3 runs with a lead of 82 runs.

On the second day, match has started at 12.40 due to overnight rain and Matara were all out for 76 (off 326). Home side was chasing a victory target of 156 runs and were 33 for 1 in 9 overs at tea, still needing 123 runs for an outright victory. After tea, Matara conceded the required runs 123, using only 2.3 overs giving away 75 wides, 19 byes and 1 no ball thus creating history in this famous victory to Ambalangoda Aruna SC.
