KLM Airlines golf tourney this saturday by Richard Dwight Since the club house and course of the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) was redeveloped and became fully operative in September last year - quite a few golf tournaments have been held and yet another is being lined up for this Saturday January 19 at the RCGC. It is being organised and conducted by the club and sponsored by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. This was revealed to the media at a briefing held at the RCGC by the captain of the RCGC Lalin Samarawickrema. Speaking on the occasion before receiving the sponsorship cheque from the Director/General Manager Carsons Airlines, Deannath Kulatunge, Samarawickrema said that in the light of the elaborate development programme gone through by the club it was encouraging to find Carsons Airline Services - GSA for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines coming forward to sponsor this tournament. Samarawickrema added that there have been other airlines which chipped in through sponsorship, that has made the club to actively assist in the tourist industry with many foreigners using the course during the day. According to the vice captain of the RCGC Lalith Ramanayake the tournament is open to members, be it men or ladies and restricted to a maximum number of 150 participants. It will be conducted on the Stableford basis, where those taking part will collect points on each and every hole. The winner after taking into account his corresponding handicap, will be determined by the highest aggregate of points so recorded. Teeing off will commence at 7 a.m. on Saturday and they will do so in numbers of four at a time. Trophies will be awarded to (a) winners, (b) runners-up, (c) highest number of birdies, (d) highest number of pars and (e) longest drive on the eighth hole. Also associated at the briefing was the Director of Carsons Ken Sellayah and the Secretary of RCGC Lionel Almeida. |
