Indian police bust Hindu plot to exhume bodies of parliament raiders NEW DELHI, Jan 13 (AFP) - Indian police Sunday disrupted the plans of a radical Hindu organisation to exhume the bodies of five Islamic militants killed in their attack last month on parliament. Detectives arrested two of the four potential grave-diggers who identified themselves as members of the New Delhi chapter of the Shiv Sena Hindu political organisation. "They were about to disturb the grave but we could get two of them before they could dig out the bodies of the five gunmen who attacked the parliament last month," a senior police official said. It was unclear why they wanted to dig up the bodies. New Delhi on Friday buried the five at an Islamic cemetery in the national capital and said the final rites were being performed locally as Islamabad had refused to accept the bullet-ridden corpses as Pakistani citizens. Military tensions between India and Pakistan peaked following the attack, which left the five gunmen and nine others dead. India insists the audacious attackers belonged to two Pakistan-based Islamic guerrilla groups, now banned by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf. The potential grave-diggers had telephoned Indian newspapers and news agencies in New Delhi prior to their planned raid on the graves to seek publicity. The Shiv Sena is a key partner in the multi-party government led by Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's Hindu nationalist BJP party. |
