A communique issued by the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, quoting Galle District PA MP and Former Minister Dr. Richard Pathirana said there was no truth whatsoever in the report published in certain newspapers that opposition leader Ratnasiri Wickremanayake had resigned from his post and that the PA Executive Committee had appointed opposition Chief Whip Mahinda Rajapakse to fill his vacancy.

Dr. Pathirana said opposition leader Ratnasiri Wickremanayake had gone abroad for medical treatment and opposition Chief Whip Mahinda Rajapakse is currently on a tour of the Middle East and he (Dr. Pathirana) was overseeing their functions until their return.

Dr. Pathirana further said he could vouch that the post of Leader of Opposition was never dismissed by party leaders at the recent PA Executive Committee meeting.

A press release issued by the office of the leader of the opposition said Mr. Vidura Wickremanayake has denied that his father Ratnasiri Wickremanayake has resigned from the Post of Organiser for the Horana electorate as stated in a Sinhala newspaper yesterday. He said Mr. Ratnasiri Wickremanayake continues to function as Horana PA organiser.

General Secretary of the PA D.M. Jayaratne said there conspiracies were planned by certain people to create dissension within PA ranks and discourage PA activists. This has been proved by these false news reports and rumours.
