Series of free health clinics in North

by Florence Wickramage

A series of free health clinics to be held in the North organised by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees, as part of the Government's 100 days program.

The first in the series will be held on January 29, near the Madhu Church in Mannar with the collaboration of SOLO-U. The Minister, Dr. Jayalath Jayewardena with a team of doctors and officials from the Ministry as well as from SOLO-U will be present at the venue.

The second program in the series will be a free medical clinic for plastic surgery at the Teaching Hospital in Jaffna for a period of two weeks beginning from February 13. The German Help Foundation in Sri Lanka is sponsoring this programme.

A team of surgeons headed by President Interplast Dr. Charles Viva will arrive on February 10, to participate in the Health program. This would be the team's second visit by the island, the first being in April 2001 when they conducted over 100 operations, free of charge at the General Hospital in Ratnapura.

Minister Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena said that this health program would further enhance and strengthen the peace process already undertaken by the Government to give a new vision and outlook as well as to ensure justice, fairplay and goodwill towards all sections of the people in Sri Lanka.
