Apparel industry in crisis

A major crisis looms over Sri Lanka's US$ 100 billion (Rs. 9.3 trillion) apparel industry, following recession in two major markets - the United States and the European Union Nations. This means that the country's export earnings will dip by at least 20 per cent in 2002, an industry source said yesterday

Warrant for arrest of PSD chief

Kandy Chief Magistrate C.V.Rajapakse yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of President's Security Division director Nihal Karunaratne in connection with the alleged intimidation of Hanguranketha OIC Gunaratne Banda in the run up to the December 5 polls.
