Final document on joint ceasefire in the offing

The Government is optimistic of a joint ceasefire with the LTTE in the coming days following progress made in talks between a Norwegian delegation and LTTE's Anton Balasingham in London during the last three days.

Rs. 400 m port project to expedite cargo operations

A special area in the Colombo Port is to be demarcated for traditional shipping cargo by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to ensure the efficient and uninterrupted handling of such cargo.

Defence Ministry seeks reduction of war risk premia

Under the Government's 100 day accelerated development programme the Defence Ministry has initiated several programmes covering concessions for War Risk Premia levied by foreign insurance agencies, compensation to next of kin of war heroes killed or maimed in action and job oriented training for civilians working for the Armed Forces, states a Defence Ministry media release.
