Police after owner of ill-fated boat

A special Police team was dispatched yesterday from Matara Police to Negombo to nab those involved in smuggling people on a boat which capsized in the sea near Devundara, Matara, killing five people on Sunday.

Solemn ceremony marks 54th Independence anniversary

Sri Lankans celebrated the 54th Independence anniversary yesterday, looking forward eagerly to peace and harmony in their land. The main ceremony was at Independence Square, with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in attendance.
