Army clarifies ....

Military spokesman Brigadier Sarath Karunaratne, has sent us a clarification with respect to our news item 'Soldiers run amok at Mahawewa' which appeared in our issue of yesterday.

He informs us that "inquiries have been made from the Brigade Headquarters as well as the Police station at Mahawewa. Both agencies have confirmed that there was no such incident that had taken place involving the Army personnel as reported by Mr. Prasad Poornamal Jayamanne, Puttalam District Correspondent in your Newspaper.

"The Brigade Commander had tried to contact the said correspondent over the phone to learn about this report but unfortunately he has failed as there has been no answer from his phone".
