Forty five years of fruitful cooperation by Ravi Ladduwahetty Sri Lanka's diplomatic ties with China is 45 years today (7). The
background to the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the two
nations which commenced on February 7, 1957, stems from the then Ceylon
Government accepting China as a diplomatic partner in 1950 but Ceylon had
to decline the offer to set up its mission in Peking due to the lack of
