Joes - STC clash for Jayasuriya Trophy The 97th annual inter school cricket encounter between S. Thomas' College and St. Joseph's College for the Gilmour Jayasuriya trophy will be worked off today and tomorrow at Mount Lavinia. The Josephians lead the series with 24 wins to their credit while the Thomians have emerged victorious on 17 occasions. St. Joseph's are the holders of the trophy having defeated their arch rivals by an innings under the leadership of Monto Perera in 1998. The Thomians recorded their last win in the series way back in 1994 under the captaincy of Nilanka Peiris (Sr). This year St. Joseph's will be led by third year coloursman Thivanka de S. Wijeratne and will be depending on star all rounder Joel Sabrin who has been outstanding throughout the season. In addition they will have the services of fifteen year old Hashan Gunatilleke and batsman Rasitha Dias, son of former Sri Lanka player Roy Dias. The Thomians will be captained by spinner Dilshan Gunawardena but the cynosure of all eyes will be on Sri Lanka youth cap Jeevan Mendis who will be playing his first game since returning after a successful tour of New Zealand in the ICC under 19 World Cup.
