Special job program for graduates

by Ananda Kannangara

A special employment generating program to assist around 12,000 undergraduates, passing out annually from all universities in the country is now being initiated by the Government under the direction of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

"The unemployment problem of at least 30,000 graduates in the country has come to the attention of all concerned and we have already implemented a long term employment generating program in order to create new employment avenues for the benefit of all unemployed youth especially the increasing number of graduates, Employment and Labour Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said.

He made these observations at a meeting held with the representatives of the Combined Unemployed Graduates Union (CUGU) held at the Labour Ministry Auditorium yesterday. Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku was also present at the discussion.

He said "When the National Employment Policy is prepared a special attention will be focused on employment of graduates."

"It is our duty to fulfil the aspirations of all graduates and we have never isolated them or their burning issues", Minister Samarasinghe added.
