JVP candidates claim UNPers attack

Two more JVP candidates contesting the forthcoming local government elections have been attacked by UNP supporters in Matara and Wanduramba, said the JVP Media Unit in a press release issued yesterday.

The release said Galbokka Arachchige Ruwan Sarath Kumara, JVP candidate for hte Ambangahakorale Pradeshiya Sabha in Matale District was allegedly assaulted by a group led by a UNP candidate near the Hunuketa Ela bathing well around 7 p.m. on February 25.

Sarath Kumara had complained to the Rattota Police regarding this incident.

Jagath Chandana Nanayakkara, JVP candidate for the Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha has sustained injuries on the head and one eye when he was allegedly attacked with clubs by supporters of a rival UNP candidate is now warded at the Karapitiya Hospital. Mr. Nanayakkara has lodged a complaint at the Wanduramba Police about the incident.
