CNCI commends govt on signing MoU

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) commended the Government on the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the LTTE and making its peace initiative.

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries always believed that ultimate peace can only arrive on the basis of give and take at negotiations, a Chamber press release said.

This conflict that has dragged on for more than eighteen long years and cost more than 60,000 lives has manifested itself as a monster devouring all the resources of Sri Lanka and has imposed on helpless people a level of barbarism seldom seen in our 2,500-year history.

The industrial community represented by this Chamber has watched helplessly as trade and investment passed us by and flew into the waiting arms of adjacent countries. The resulting deterioration in our economy has enmeshed a large proportion of our population in deprivation and poverty and the time has come to see an end to this.

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries at this crucial juncture offers its unstinted support to the Government of Sri Lanka in negotiating a lasting peace, the release said.
