Ensure free and fair election - PM Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday issued strict
instructions to police to maintain law and order at today's local polls
and warned that SSPs and OICs would be held directly responsible for any
acts in violation of the Election procedures in their areas. 'Police perfectly capable of providing polls security' The present situation does not warrant the extreme step of calling in
the Armed Forces for today's local government elections, Interior Minister
