UNP heading for clear victory Initial results released by the Commissioner of Elections indicated
that the United National Party was heading for a clear victory with a vast
majority at yesterday's elections for 222 Local Government Bodies. UNP urges action against violators The local government elections have been, to a great extent, concluded
peacefully, UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrama said yesterday. What the monitors say Preliminary reports indicate that the Local Government Election was
conducted in an essentially free and fair manner in the vast majority of
local authority areas, the People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL)
