Six mile sea swim on March 30

The 38th Annual six mile Open Sea Swim conducted by the Kinross swimming and life saving club will be held on Saturday 30th March 2002 commencing at 7.30 am. The usual course of the swim is from Wellawatte to mount Lavinia and back. Last year, at the 37th Annual Swim 147 male competitors and 7 female competitors participated in this popular annual sports event and we expect a larger number of participants this year.

Last year the men's race was won by Ajith Weerakkody of Sri Lanka Navy whilst Pushpa Chandani representing Sri Devananda Maha Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda won the Women's race. Sri Devananda Maha Vidyalaya won both the men's team race and women's team race.

This year too Bank of Ceylon, the principal sponsor for swimming in Sri Lanka, has come forward as sole sponsor for the six mile swim.
