Bajaj Trophy badminton on March 24 and 25 The first ever David Peiris Motor Company All Island Invitation Badminton Championships for the "Bajaj Trophy will be worked off on March 24 and 25 at the DPMC Sports Complex, Madapatha. The teams who have accepted the invitation are North Western Province BA, Central Province BA, Southern Province BA, Karandeniya MMV, Sri DEvananda MMV, Royal College, Colombo, Bambalanda Indoor sports club, Piliyandala, & Seylan Bank SC. The hosts will be fielding two teams To give more exposure to the up and coming players the organisers have restricted the participation for players who have not played in tournaments at national level in 1999, 2000 and 2001. The tournament, a long gruelling team competition, a tie consisting of three men's singles and two doubles two womens singles a and a double; and one a mixed double best of nine matches. The first ever winners and runners up will carry away the brand new "Bajaj" trophies plus cash awards, special awards on offer are for the "Most Valuable Player" Men and Women, "Most Outstanding Player in the final" (men and women). Local Bajaj Boss David Pieris who is an ardent badminton player-promoter, along with his executive director Neil Perera has made elaborate plans to make this tournament a grand success. |
