VAT-69

The main PA opposition yesterday boycotted the traditional budget tea party.

PA Media spokesman Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that the PA Parliamentary group took a collective decision to boycott the tea party. He did not elaborate.

Commenting on the budget, Dr. Amunugama said the budget had failed to provide relief to the ordinary man and instead it had catered only to the rich and the affluent.

"I would describe it as a " VAT 69 " budget because the Government in its eagerness to satisfy the rich investors have withdrawn concessions hitherto enjoyed by the public servants, Dr. Amunugama added.
