Umpires give ICC approval The eight members of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) elite umpire panel have given their backing to the extended use of TV technology on a trial basis. The umpires are currently in South Africa attending an ICC conference and receiving instruction in the latest disciplinary code agreed last week. On Monday, the ICC announced that the Champions Trophy tournament in September will be used as a testing ground for extending the third umpire's remit to cover all decisions. The umpires in the middle will be able to consult the third official for any decision they are unsure of. "This endorsement was a positive outcome from a very good day's business for the conference," said ICC chief executive officer Malcolm Speed. "The issue of technology was debated at some length and it was agreed that a trial was the best way to move forward, to judge if more technological assistance would be of benefit." (BBC)
