Dahanayake Group in hockey final by Pelham Juriansz A. W. Dahanayake Group defeated GlaxoSmithKline by 3 goals to 1 in their D division Mercantile hockey semi final match at the Malay Padang. For most of the game the two teams played without their full contingent of players due to various reasons including two players from the GlaxoSmithKline group being sent off by the umpires. The team from the pharmaceutical arena missed about three easy chances at goal by veterans former Sri Lankan player Ishak Shahabdeen and J.Majid. It was Wipula Dahanayake who drew first blood for A.W.Dahanayake when he sounded the boards for them. The first half ended with A. W D group leading 1 nil. After the short whistle Sahabdeen scored for GlaxoSmithKline to equalise at 1 all. Thereafter it was A. W. Dahanayake all the way with Muditha Saman Jayasundara and again Wipula Dahanayake sounding the boards once again in the 50th and 56th minutes to give A. W. Dahanayake Group a convincing win. A.W. Dahanayake group meet Unilevers in the final at the Malay Padang. |
