Peace talks in May

Both the Government and the LTTE have decided to start negotiations within six weeks as a conducive environment has been created to commence talks, Government spokesman and Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris told the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday.

President welcomes on coming talks

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday welcomed the announcement by the Government through the Cabinet Spokesman that direct negotiations with the LTTE would commence in early May, aimed at arriving at a negotiated settlement of the ethnic problem.
