Sthree accounts carry many benefits by Kalutara group correspondent Any female over the age of 16 years is eligible to become the holder of "Sthree" account with a deposit of Rs. 500. Even those who hold other types of National Savings Bank (NSB) account could open a "Sthree" account and enjoy the privileges offered to "Sthree" account holders by National Savings Bank, said D. W. Somathilaka, the manager NSB branch Kalutara recently. He was addressing a gathering of women at the NSB branch Kalutara when they met at the Bank to open the "Sthree" account. He said further by maintaining your account satisfactorily for just 6 months you will be eligible to apply for a personal loan with interest of 1% less than the normal rate or you could meet your urgent financial necessities by pawning your gold jewellery at 1% less than the normal rate of interest. You will also be entitled to loans against your deposits at 0.5% less than the normal rate. In addition to interest on your account you will also be entitled to a special bonus meant exclusively for "Sthree" account holders. To be eligible for this bonus you should maintain a balance of Rs. 1,000 or more in your account for more than a year and you will then be entitled to an annual bonus of 2% of your account balance, he said. If you have maintained a minimum balance of Rs. 10,000 in your "Sthree" account for a period of at least 6 months, you will be eligible to participate in the prize draws which will be held quarterly, said the NSB Manager.
