The Granville Rodrigo Memorial Junior Novices Rugby Tournament 2002 has been organised by the Western Province Rugby Football Union in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union Development Committee on 4th May 2002 from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Vistwyke Playgrounds, Mattakkuliya.

N.J. Mudannayake - Rugby Development Officer, WPRFU says that more than 700 students from the Western Province Development Schools will be participating in the tourney between the age groups of over 9 to under-15 both girls and boys from 24 schools.

The chief organiser Basil Rodrigo thanked the Minister of Sports Johnston Fernando for the support given. Arjun Dharmadasa, Chairman Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union, Development Committee would like to thank Lilantha Perera - Member of Parliament, Western Province, Y.C. Chang - past Chairman Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union Development Committee, Hatton National Bank, Modera, Lions Club of Modera-Mattakkuliya and Nestle Lanka Ltd for sponsorship of the tournament.

Special thanks to Perl Hospital (Pvt) Ltd for the medical attention which will be given free of charge for the participants.
