Lankan to close $ 1 million domain deal A young Sri Lankan who is studing for his BSc in Computer Science - Vincent Peeris is running a successful business in providing domain services with a number of leading clients in his list. Domain is the name of a web site for example dailynews.lk. There are several major tlds in domains such as .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and country tlds such as .lk for Sri Lanka. The most popular of the tlds is .com. Peeris has sold several domains to his clients to use for future sites. Peeris' highest sale was eManufacture.com to a US client for US $7,750. According to domain aftermarket statistics, it is the first sale of a domain from Sri Lanka and one of the highest sales in the South Asian region. Even though Sri Lankans have sold websites along with domains the transactions were done in the US, Peeris said. "I have done the whole deal while staying in Sri Lanka and also without having any websites for the domains which I believe is an achievement. I have sold several other domains such as cygnet.com, labonachip.com, downdraft.com, advernet.com, bohae.com, drugaddicts.com, shanon.com etc to clients in US, Germany, England, Scotland, South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan," he said. He has done major domains such as foreignexchange.com, registername.com, few.com, flossing.com etc. He plans to close a long-term deal for foreignexchange.com with a major online Forex company. The deal would be worth $ 1 million in the long-term and would make it one of the top domain sales of all times. Peeris has been in this business for two years. Up to now he has been reinvesting all the profits into the domain market. I needed funds urgently for a project to acquire .biz domains. As you know .biz is the new tld introduced by ICANN, the world governing body for domains. The .biz tld is targeted exclusively at businesses and is expected to rival .com in popularity especially in Europe and Asia. "I am close to acquiring Srilanka.biz so that it could be used as a portal for Sri Lanka's businesses unlike SriLanka.com which is owned by an US firm," he said. Peeris hopes to further develop his business with the support of the government and SLT as he is one of the pioneers in this field in Sri Lanka and Asia as well. |
