Azwer said it was only appropriate that the JVP fore coffins in its May Day procession, a symbol of its macabre past. He recalled the time villagers were killed and denied a decent burial by the very people who were now carrying coffins. That was the time when coffins of JVP victims were borne below knee level on pain of death to the relatives. The Minister as speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa at the Premadasa Centre in Hulftsdorp. In a frontal attack on the JVP the Minister maintained that the present rhetoric of the JVP would be rejected in the same way the masses rejected the hackneyed slogans of the old left parties. "If this could happen to the golden brains of the left movement one could imagine the fate that awaits these "panchas" (novices). He said the JVP was peddling a communal line in its May rhetoric completely out of character with Marxist principles which shunned communalism. He also exposed the duplicity of the JVP in not pressing for investigations into massive corruption on arms deals against known culprits of the former cabinet during its "Parivasa" period. Former first Lady Hema Preamadasa said she was happy to note political rise of Azad Sally who came under the influence of her late husband. Minister of Samurdhi Development R.A.D.
